Cupping Therapy

Cupping Therapy is a natural and non-invasive method of treatment using suction cups and can be used as an adjunct for deep tissue massage. Cupping is based on the ancient history and application of old Chinese medicine. Functional Integrated Cupping Therapy (FICT) has been around for 5000 years but has had a resurgence within the athletic population and even more recently as a modality for stress and anxiety. The goal of this treatment is to increase blood flow to the tissues, speed up healing and recovery time and, be used in prevention of further injuries. Recently, clients have been choosing this therapy that have been stuck indoors working from home which can cause several harmful ailments. Musculoskeletal issues and stress and anxiety are becoming more prevalent with home working.

What to Expect:

Opposite to massage, Cupping expels air into the cup creating a negative pressure and separating the layers of tissues. When the tissues separate, water is absorbed into dehydrated tissues and waste product is eliminated. There is also a renewed blood flow to rejuvenate the tissues. This method manually removes the energy blockage in ways that acupuncture needles, massage and other treatment methods cannot do.

The suction and negative pressure provided by Cupping can loosen muscles, encourage blood flow, and sedate the nervous system (which makes it an excellent treatment for high blood pressure). Cupping is used to relieve back and neck pains, stiff muscles (sports pre-& post recovery), anxiety, fatigue, migraines, rheumatism, and can even remove or improve cellulite.

The suction force from cupping breaks open tiny blood vessels called capillaries under your skin. You’ll have red, round cupping therapy marks that should fade in a week or two. Although these marks will look like bruises, they’re not true bruises that injure muscle fibers.

Cupping shouldn’t cause pain, though you may experience some skin tightness during the procedure. After cupping therapy, you may feel bruised and slightly sore, but you shouldn’t have severe discomfort.
